Jobs in Sports Media
Jobs in Sports Media explores the wide range of career opportunities that exist across today’s sports media industry, as well as new roles that are emerging as the business continues to evolve.
Students will examine both traditional sports media careers, including reporting, broadcasting, production, advertising and public relations, and newer opportunities connected to digital platforms, analytics, branded content, audience behavior and social media.
Throughout the course, students will learn what these jobs actually involve, the skills employers are looking for and how different areas of the sports media industry connect. The course also encourages students to think about their own interests, strengths and experiences as they begin considering where they may fit within the industry.
In addition to exploring different career paths, students will complete assignments designed to introduce them to the professional job-search process, including identifying current sports media opportunities and developing a resume and cover letter tailored to a specific position.
The goal of the course is not simply to introduce students to jobs in sports media, but to help them better understand what it takes to compete for those opportunities and begin preparing for a career in the industry.
