Alexis Scurry

Alexis Scurry, LMSW is the Interim Associate Director of Field Education for the Online MSW Program. Prior to joining the College of Social Work, Alexis served as a Social Work Professor and the Director of Social Work Field Education at Columbia College in Columbia, South Carolina.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences with a specialization in Youth Issues from Winthrop University.  Passionate about helping others and becoming a change agent, she enrolled and matriculated with her Masters of Social Work from the University of South Carolina-Columbia. 

Alexis worked as the Volunteer Training and Recruitment Manager and the Anti-Human Trafficking Project Coordinator for Richland County's Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).  Prior to relocating to Columbia, she worked at Aiken Center where she specialized in community prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Alexis currently serves as Board Chair for Kindred Hearts of South Carolina, Vice Chair for the board of Columbia Area Mental Health, and volunteers as a Guardian ad Litem with Richland County CASA. She has over twelve years of experience in training, curriculum development and implementation, community engagement, grant writing, and child welfare.  

Alexis's motto is the African proverb "Each one, teach one".  She implements this proverb by intentionally sharing information and experiences to enhance the education of her students and community as a whole.
